#frontdoorselfie

I saw a post yesterday from a photographer in Boston, Cara Soulia Photography, who has begun to do quick, free family portraits on the front steps (#thefrontstepsproject) and the family donates to a local charity. I loved the idea of reaching out to families in Owensboro and the surrounding area. I thought it would be a great way to highlight helpers, build up morale and well, you all know how much I love photographing families. So a win, win.  However, considering that we are supposed to be self-isolating right now, I wasn’t exactly sure how it would work.  So I began a conversation about this idea in a photography group.

A photographer in Indiana, Becky Furry of Always Happy Life Photography, who happens to also be a nurse, came up with a slightly modified version #thefrontdoorselfie.  You stay home with your family, take a selfie for now, and then make a donation to a charity or company that is serving our community right now.  When it is safe to be socially non-distant again I will contact you and schedule a time to come do a quick 10 minute family photo session with you and your family at your front door.

Becky challenged other photographers in our respective areas to follow suite.  I decided to join the challenge.

As you know we really need to stay home right now to flatten the curve for Covid-19.  This is extremely important and I want to do my part.  I love the idea of photographing families, but safety first.  The fact that we are all home with our family makes it’s so easy to get everyone in for a quick selfie and everyone has doors in their house.  Also, we need to see our friends and family on social media, because the connection helps.

So the #frontdoorselfie movement started.

Here is how you participate.

1)      Send a selfie of you and your family to me in front of your front door to cindy@beautyrevealedphotography.com and let me know you are in.  It can be from inside or outside your front door, or any door inside your house for that matter.  One of your kids decorated their bedroom door, yes, that’s a perfect backdrop. Also, include a receipt from a donation to charity or organization with a note that says #frontdoorselie.  I know some of you are making and donating masks to the hospital and doctor’s offices.  Simply include some of them in your family photo. Likewise, if you are donating food to a food bank.

2)      Let me know if I have permission to share your selfie and I will.  All selfies that I share will be collected in an album on my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/3210brp/

3)      When Covid-19 is no longer a threat, I’ll reach out and set up a quick session (10 minutes) with you to photograph your family in front of your front door.  You will receive a digital 5x7 with your family in front of your front door for taking part in this community movement.

Until we meet in person, stay safe and stay well!!!  Please do your part to flatten the curve!!!!
